Tonight's 'Pink Moon' Full Moon Could Actually Be Pink In Some ... (Forbes)

April's full moon is nicknamed the "Pink Moon" but it has nothing to do with the actually hue of our sole natural satellite in the sky.

Also, the best time to see a more colorful moon will be while it is on the horizon. You look to the horizon as the full moon is rising just after sunset and it appears to be some blazing variation of pink, orange or reddish. Smoke, haze and ash can travel quite far down wind in substantial enough quantities to affect the appearance of the full moon. April’s full moon is nicknamed the “Pink Moon” but it has nothing to do with the actually hue of our sole natural satellite in the sky. Enjoy the sunset and then simply re-orient yourself 180 degrees in the other direction. Specifically, smoke from wildfires, ash from volcanic eruptions or even just haze from air pollution can led the moon a pinkish, if somewhat sad, hue.

The Pink Moon rises tonight (April 5) and peaks after midnight and during the early hours of Thursday (April 6).
