The Department of Education (DepEd) recently introduced a new initiative called Catch-Up Fridays to enhance the learning experience of students. According to DepEd Memorandum 001 s. 2024, this program will allocate half of every Friday to reading activities and the other half to focusing on values. The goal is to improve the reading skills and strengthen the moral values of learners.

Starting on January 12, all Fridays during the current school year will be designated as catch-up days. The primary objective is to enhance the reading proficiency of students across elementary and secondary schools. Classes will take a break from usual subjects like math and science to emphasize reading skills and promote a culture of values education.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has emphasized the importance of improving teaching quality, leading to the implementation of Catch-Up Fridays. Under the guidance of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte, education officials are working towards creating a more engaging and effective learning environment for students.

In a memorandum order dated January 10 and signed by Undersecretary Gina Gonong on behalf of Education Secretary Sara Duterte, Catch-Up Fridays officially kick off this week. Stay tuned for exciting developments and enhancements in the education system to benefit students nationwide!
