Earthquake Activity Around the World: Mindanao, Hawaii, and More

Multiple earthquakes ranging from magnitude 4.6 to 5.9 have recently struck various locations including Mindanao, Hawaii, and China, causing concern and minor damages.

A series of earthquakes have recently hit different parts of the world, including Mindanao, Hawaii, and China, indicating heightened seismic activity. In Mindanao, the Philippines, a significant magnitude 5.6 earthquake was reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). Hawaii also experienced its share of tremors, with a magnitude-5.7 earthquake shaking the Big Island, causing minor disturbances up to 200 miles away. Additionally, a magnitude-5.8 earthquake occurred south-southwest of Butuan City, with no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

In Alaska, the Iliamna Volcano recorded a M1.9 event, although details remain unreviewed. Closer to the US mainland, a magnitude-4.6 earthquake northwest of Malibu impacted Southern California, leading to widespread shaking in multiple counties. Furthermore, in Agusan del Sur, the Philippines, a significant magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit Esperanza town, as reported by the Philippine Institute.

Following the earthquake in China's Linxia Prefecture, Red Cross China played a vital role in assisting affected individuals to heal and rebuild their communities. Notably, the recent earthquake that struck Mauna Loa volcano on Hawaii's Big Island, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, caused disturbances and minor damages, highlighting the region's vulnerability to seismic activities. The US Geological Survey had initially estimated the quake at 6.3 magnitude before revising it down to 5.7, indicating the widespread impact of the event.
